Where the signage app runs

In the browser on a smart TV

Most recent Samsung, LG, Sony and Android TV sets have a browser that runs the app well enough for images, web content and standard video. This is the cheapest route, because the screen you already bought is the whole device.

On an Android device or stick

An Android stick or box behind the panel gives smoother video, a reliable auto start and a longer duty cycle than a TV browser. See android digital signage.

On Chrome OS

A Chromebox or Chromebit in kiosk mode is the most predictable hardware in the category: it updates itself, it recovers from a power cut, and it is managed centrally. See chrome os signage.

On Windows

A mini PC or a spare desktop running the browser in kiosk mode. Common where IT already manages Windows machines and wants the screen on the same footing. See digital signage software for Windows.

On a Chromecast or a set top device

Cast the pairing URL and leave it running. Useful for a notice board or a meeting room screen where video is light.

What the app does on the screen

Pairs with a six digit code, so nothing has to be typed into a TV keyboard except once
Downloads the schedule and its media, then plays from the device
Advances each item on its own duration, scrolls the ticker and keeps the clock live
Keeps playing when the connection drops, then catches up and uploads what it stored
Reports the item it drew and the time it drew it
Returns a periodic screenshot so the panel can show the actual frame
Recovers after a power cut by reopening the same URL, with no one on site

What the signage app does not need

No player hardware from us, and no lock to one brand of panel
No installer, because it is a URL and a browser
No open inbound port on your network, because the player calls out
No local server and no storage box in the back office
No licence per user. You pay per active screen and invite anyone you like

Managed from the panel, not from the wall

Content, schedule, orientation, resolution and volume are all set in the panel and applied on the next check in. A screen that needs a restart can be told to reload from the panel. Nobody drives to a site to change a picture.

Health checks run on the device: a frozen render, a wrong resolution after a TV firmware update or a storage problem each raise an alert by email, with the location and the last frame.
